Time Lapse Relapse

I found this video on Derek's blog. It was from the day P. from New York wanted to do a photoshoot of me. I asked Derek and Beeej to come with me, and whilst getting ready, we had this time lapse video filming. God we're so full of ourselves. Ready, Set, Gold!

Shhhh...

It's not the voices in my head that bother me. It's the voices coming from outside.

Mis Trucos

I got a voucher to eat at this place called Mis Trucos on Davie and Thurlow. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile cuz i read a good review in one of the local papers, and the place looks really cute, like a house. The voucher was good for two 6 course custom crafted tasting menus based on the season's fresh offerings. I took my darling friend  Derek Cardigan, cuz he's down with this shit. And i love him. And he's a brat.

What a diva.

Gin Gin Mule- gin, house made ginger beer, mint, lime
This crispy bread wrap was so good! Light and crispy and delicate. Served atop a wonderful ailoioioio.
Crispy bread wrapped wild prawn + aioli

wild mushrooms, monkfish, something

a seafood stew with lobster broth

i forgot what this was, but it was my FAVE

Derek thought we wasn't gonna get full- but we did.

porkloin and mashed potato, arugula

panna cotta with praline

I absolutely adore this place and will come back again to try things off their regular menu. The six course tasting menu is actually a really good deal at $35. It's better than having a humongous 3 course menu cuz you get to try different things. The atmosphere was modern yet non pretentious, and our server was really cool and not fake. I can't wait to come back :D

What's for dinner in Heaven Ken Kostick?

Mary Jo Eustace and Ken Kostick Hosts CBC's What's for Dinner

Today mother told me that Ken Kostick from What's for Dinner passed away. I remember watching this show when i was just a child. This was before i started watching Martha Stewart instead of going to the mall with all the other tweens. Ken Kostick was also the first homosexual TV host i've ever been exposed to. This man has made a definite imprint on my life, shaping my passion for homecooking and being fabulous all at the same time. Thank you Mr. Kostick. May you rest in peace.

The room was packed! they even managed to have a little band set up on the corner playing some cool music.

Earl Grey French Macarons

Black Sesame, Matcha, Redbean? French Macarons

Lavender Shortbread

Red Velvet Cake Pops

Tiramisu Samurai cookie

This bake sale really filled me with inspiration (and sugar). I'm gonna bring it and then some.

Filipino Lumpia Shanghai-YA!

This is a party favorite. I like to make huge batches of these little bad boys and stick them in the freezer. You can be as creative as you want with the fillings. One time we didn't have ground meats, so my mom used shredded chicken, and pieces of longanisa(future post on that coming soon!) You can use beef instead of pork if you are banned from eating pork.

Chopping Garlic. One of my favorite things to do!

Usually when i cook things, i always start off with the TRINITY-Onions-carrots-celery. Remember this. Get used to it.

When you saute that stuff,
the smell is most divine.

In this recipe we are just using onions, garlic, and carrots. No cooking required.

l-r soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil, cilantro, garlic, s&p, onion, carrot, ground pork

Don't be shy. Just get messy! It's liberating. You can also use a food processor.

you can find these in the freezer section of any market. they're cheap.

i use a small amount of meat so it cooks faster and theres MORE crunch fun to go around

Doesn't that just make you want to stop what you're doing right now and do whatever it takes to have some?

CATTLE HOT POT!

I went to all you can eat $17.95 Cattle Hot Pot in Richmond. I usually don't like hot pot. But Damn this was GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOefinOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.
You can pick two broths! Cost extra. Top is hot&spicy, bottom is preserved egg and cilantro.

These prawns were DELICIOUS. So creamy and rich.

Seaweed, pumpkin, oysters, mussels, baby octopus...

"Just like the ocean." Says Su as she dumps it into the boiling pot!

The meats were divine bovine.

On the menu was deep fried fish skin. These bad boys were the B-diggity. They taste like Muslim-friendly pork rinds. We kept ordering these no problem.

I love this place and will come back again. It's small, so i recommend making reservations. 2hr limit. I didn't get more pictures of them meat cuz i was too into the meal to keep documenting anything. Most of the documenting was done in my mouth. YUM!
